Wichita’s Northwest Water Facility Joins Nationwide Participation for 3rd Annual Construction Inclusion Week

Wichita’s Northwest Water Facility will host a series of on-site events to promote Construction Inclusion Week: October 16-20, 2023. The annual week amplifies awareness while celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout the construction industry to spearhead change.

Since the beginning of the $500 million legacy project, Wichita Water Partners has aimed to incorporate a wide variety of emerging small businesses to support the design and construction of the City’s largest capital investment in history.

That effort continues this week with the on-site project team organizing a range of activities to highlight the importance of inclusivity at all levels of the project. Daily themes include:

Monday: Commitment & Accountability

Tuesday: Belonging

Wednesday: Supplier Diversity

Thursday: Workplace Culture

Friday: Community Engagement

To encourage active participation, the team has organized activities like toolbox talks and other various sessions to foster a greater understanding of the importance of inclusion. A webinar is also scheduled which will feature the “Best Practices for Enhancing Supplier Diversity.”  

In addition to these activities, workers are encouraged to choose a good cause in the community to promote and support through volunteer events.  

The Northwest Water Facility’s decision to host these events aligns with its commitment to social responsibility and community engagement. By actively participating in Construction Inclusion Week, the plant hopes to inspire others to embrace diversity and create inclusive environments.

The anticipated reach for firms participating in 2023 Construction Inclusion Week is more than 750,000+ industry workers, including subcontractors, craft workers, and construction management professionals, on over 6,500 project sites nationwide.
