Wichita’s Northwest Water Facility Brings the MAGIC to Construction Site

Wichita Water Partners, a joint venture between Alberici and Burns & McDonnell, hosted local high school girls participating in the Mentoring a Girl in Construction (MAGIC) summer camp on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

During the supervised visit to Wichita’s Northwest Water Facility, students toured the construction site, engaged in hands-on activities, and learned from project leadership and key women working to build the $500 million state-of-the-art treatment plant.

With women occupying just 10% of the construction workforce, the goal of the MAGIC program is to expose girls ages 14-18 to a variety of exciting careers available in the construction and transportation industries.

As a sponsor, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT), wanted to broaden this year’s week-long program by inviting Wichita Water partners to participate. The event was designed to showcase the collaboration and partnerships required to replace the City’s 80 year-old water treatment plant while empowering young high school students to consider futures in the construction field.

Wichita Water Partners is committed to growing local workforce opportunities in association with the design and construction of Wichita’s Northwest Water Facility.
