Northwest Water Facility Celebrates 1 million Labor Hours Milestone

In March, the largest capital investment in Wichita’s history celebrated a significant milestone. Since construction began in 2020, 1 million labor hours have shaped the progress you see today at the $500 Northwest Water Facility (NWWF). The project will replace the City’s 80-year-old water treatment plant and is estimated to provide $2 billion in local economic stimulus.

When completed in 2024, the new state-of the-art facility will pump 120 million gallons of safe, clean drinking water each day to Wichita residents and surrounding areas. The facility will take an estimated 1.6 million labor hours to build. To date, more than 5,000 people have contributed to this legacy project to serve generations to come.
