Long-Term, Low-Cost Loans

Wichita has the benefit of two key sources of low-interest funding.

Kansas State Revolving Loan Fund (SRF)

Environmental Protection Agency
Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA)

Together, loans from WIFIA and
SRF will save an estimated

$93 million

Substantial Savings Over Generations

The City has secured two types of loans (state and federal) which are awarded to public water supply projects and provide significant cost savings.

Operational Efficiencies,
Environmentally Friendly

In addition to providing maximum value to ratepayers, Wichita Water Partners is placing an emphasis on operational efficiencies that will serve future generations. Over time, the facility could pay for itself through these savings. Here’s how the math works: our work to date is projected to save more than $6 million a year in future operating costs. If the new facility operates 80 years like the current one has, the plant would pay for itself. The facility is better for the environment, too, employing smart systems to reduce chemical use and create less waste.

A Locked-In Maximum Price

On October 28, 2019 Wichita Water Partners submitted its proposed design for 30% of the plant and its final guaranteed maximum price of $494.2 million. The guaranteed maximum means the city has no exposure to inflation and no risk of cost overruns.
